The City of Wahpeton has no jurisdiction over watercraft on the lake.  Please direct your complaint to the Law Enforcement Supervisor in Orleans at 336-1840.

Garbage pickup October 1st through April 30 is on Tuesday only. Garbage pickup May 1st through September 30th is on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  Please have garbage out to the curbside by 6 a.m. Residents are no longer required to purchase City garbage bags, but we do encourage continued use of garbage bags to keep the inside of your garbage can clean and odor free. For further information please call City Hall during normal office hours.

Recycling will be picked up at your residence on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month. Please have it out by 6 am or the night before

The City of Wahpeton treats and distributes it's own water. A year-round minimum fee for water is billed whether you use any water or not. The water still must go through a treatment process and still passes by every home via the distribution system. The fees charged are used for operational expenses incurred for chemicals, utilities, salaries, maintenance and repairs year-round.

• Last increase was in December 2020.
• Need to update the water plant for the zebra mussel issue which will also increase chemical costs.
• To pay for infrastructure such as the new 200,000 gallon water tower.
• Costs involved to repair & replace water mains, water lines and fire hydrants (ranges from $15,000 - $40,000 per year)
• Cost to run the plant year round and updates - not just during the summer months.
• Increases in both fixed and variable costs for chemicals to treat the water, utilities, maintenance, repairs and wages.
• Reserves for future needs.
